London is still the world’s five-star hotel capital, according to Forbes Travel Guide’s 2020 Star Rating Awards.
It is recognised as having 19 five-star properties – more than any other capital city – by the awards, which honours luxury hotels, spas and restaurants.
Wynn Resorts dominates the Las Vegas market with seven five-star awards, while Four Seasons is the brand with the most five-star hotels globally – a total of 44 properties.

The award winners are picked by FTG’s inspectors, who travel the world to assess hotels, restaurants and spas based on 900 criteria.
Among the top hotels in London, six properties are awarded five-star status for the first time.
They include Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair, Rosewood London near Covent Garden, The Berkeley in Knightsbridge and Kensington’s The Milestone Hotel & Residences.
The Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, near the Tower of London, and The Egerton House Hotel in Chelsea are the other two new award winners.
Other properties that have retained their five-star status from FTG for another year include 45 Park Lane, Bulgari Hotel London, Claridge’s, The Connaught, The Dorchester and the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane.
The remaining properties are The Goring, Hotel 41, The Lanesborough, The Langham, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, The Savoy and Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard.

In Las Vegas, Wynn Resorts is given five-star awards for its hotels the Wynn Las Vegas, Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, Wynn Tower Suites and Encore Tower Suites.
The Spa at Wynn Las Vegas and The Spa at Encore Las Vegas are also rated as five-star as is Wing Lei – the fine dining restaurant at the Wynn Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, 11 Four Seasons hotels are given a five-star award from FTG for the first time.
They include the Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, Four Seasons Hotel Moscow and Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, Johannesburg.
In total, FTG recognises 1,898 properties in 73 countries with them awarded five-star, four-star or recommended status.

There are 70 new five-star hotels, 120 new four-star hotels and 81 new recommended hotels on the 2020 list.
In the restaurant list there are 13 new five-star, eight new four-star and two new recommended winners.
The recipients also include 24 new five-star and 22 new four-star spas.
A total of 432 five-star distinctions were awarded to hotels, restaurants and spas and the top-ranking was attained for the first time in locations including Antigua, Ireland, Cape Town, Moscow and the Maldives.
