Helen Skelton recalls her travel adventures
So which destination is the TV presenter’s most memorable?
Here she talks about a treacherous flight to the South Pole, remembers an exciting trip to Brazil – and more…
EARLIEST HOLIDAY MEMORY?
Flying to France in 1989, aged six. I was a fan of the Care Bears, who could fly, and I thought I’d spot them during our flight. Eventually, we reached our campsite near Perpignan. Funnily enough, 25 years later, I moved there with my family when my husband, Richie, signed for the Catalan Dragons rugby team.
FAVOURITE HOTEL?
Another Place in the Lake District, overlooking Ullswater. I grew up nearby.
MOST EXCITING DESTINATION?
I love Brazil. I visited Rio during carnival season and it was madness.
WHERE NEXT?
My sister-in-law has just returned from Goa and I’d like to go.

Vibrant: Helen dreams of visiting Goa (above), Bali and Mongolia
WHAT DO YOU AVOID ON HOLIDAY?
Half-board in hotels. I hate having to get dressed and go down to breakfast for a certain time, or plan when to return to the hotel after a day out.
EVER HAD A BAD FLIGHT?
Flying to the South Pole in 2012. It was a military plane with no windows so there was a video screen showing us coming in to land. It was an epic adventure, but -70c degrees took some getting used to.
DREAM DESTINATION?
Bali and Mongolia please.
